Constatution of IRVINE AZA # 2341


Preamble

     The Aleph Zadik Aleph of the B’nai Brith Youth Organization has for its purpose: The spiritual, mental and physical development of Jewish Youth, The inculcation of a love and understanding of their Jewish cultural heritage,The stimulation of responsibility as good citizens of the community in which live as well as in the larger Jewish community, The encouragement of goodwill among the youth of all people, and interests in humanitarian, philantrophic, and educational endeavors.

 

                                      Article 1.

                      Name

The body shall be known as Irvine AZA, chapter #2341 of the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization.

 

                                      Article 2.

     B’nai Brith Youth Commission

The provisions of the Constitution and by-laws of the B’nai B’rith Youth Commission are hereby made a part hereof and whenever there is any conflict between the Constitution and by-laws and those of the B’nai B’rith Youth Commission as they now read, or may latter be amended, such provisions of this Constitution and by-laws shall be void and of no effect and the Constitution and by-laws of the B’nai Brith Youth Commission shall be supreme in every case.

                                                Article 3.

                     Function

Irvine AZA #2341 of the Aleph Zadik Aleph shall be the coordinating body of the Aleph Zadik Aleph falling within its geographical boundaries.  It shall conduct activities of the Aleph Zadik Aleph in accordance with the philosophy, Constitution, and by-laws of the B’nai B’rith Youth Commission.  It shall operate to better the Aleph Zadik Aleph, and all of the Jewish youth.

 

                                                Article 4.

                   Membership

Section 1.  Eligibility-An applicant for membership in Irvine AZA must be in High school(grades 9-12), and he may join at anytime during that period of time.  As of April 1st, eighth graders are eligible for Irvine AZA.  Irvine AZA does not have an age limit to the Organization, it corresponds with the Alephs grade in school, therefore everyone has the opportunity to experience as much as possible in an equal amount of time as anyone else, regardless of age.

Section 2.  A.I.T test-This test is given to every Aleph In training by the Aleph Moreh, so he may become a full fledged member of Irvine AZA. If he passes his test he will become a bachelor of the Aleph Zadik Aleph, and than become a true member of Irvine AZA.

             If a member fails there is no limit to the amount of times that he may retake it.  Our goal as members of Irvine AZA is to give every Jewish male, who would like to be a part of Irvine AZA, the opportunity to become a member, and he may try as much as he has to, to become one, and until than, Irvine AZA is not satisfied with themselves, because we are not doing our job of educating the AITs well enough, and as members we must prepare ourselves for the future generations, and the only way is education.

                                                Article 5.

                Registration Fees

We Irvine AZA feel that money is not the only way to help out the chapter, so there is no additional dues on top of the Regional dues for yearly membership.

 

                                      Article 6.

                     Meetings

Section 1. Regular-Regular meetings shall be held as frequently as possible.  We  recommend that a meeting be held once every other week, however, if there is no business to go over than there is no need for a chapter meeting.  All chapter meetings are run by the Aleph Godol, or in his absence the next highest officer.

Section 2. Executive Board-Board meetings shall be held, whenever needed.  The Aleph Sag’s is in charge of running the board meeting, and he is the one who calls for one.

Section 3.  Special-Special meetings may be called by the Aleph Godol at anytime, or shall eight members in good standing, but no special meeting shall be held until written notice thereof shall have been sent at least two days previous to the date of the special meeting telling why it is being held, and no further business shall be transacted at such a special meeting.

Section 4.  Quorum-One more than half of the membership of the Chapter shall constitute a quorum for meetings at which business is transacted.     

                                                Article 7.

                    Officers

Section 1.  Names-The executive board of the Irvine AZA #2341 shall consist of an Aleph Godol, Aleph S’gan, Aleph Moreh, Aleph Mazkir, Aleph Gizbor, Aleph Sopher, Aleph Shaliach, Aleph Ruach, Aleph Kohane Godol, Aleph Shotare Godol, and an Aleph Shotare Kotone.

 

Section 2.  Duties-A)The duties of the Aleph Godol shall correspond to those of a president who shall preside over all Chapter meetings and shall be an ex-offico member of all committees, and he shall oversee the executive board. He shall elect the two Shotare’s at he beginning of the term and shall work with the freshman Godol side by side when a Freshman boards elected.

B)The duties of the Aleph S’gan shall correspond to those of a vice-president.  He shall appoint at least one member to every committee.   In the absence of the Godol, the S’gan shall assume all responsibilities.  He shall be the chairman of and preside at all executive board meetings.  He shall plan all AZAA basketball practices for Irvine AZA.

C) The duties of the Aleph Moreh shall correspond to those of a membership vice-president.  He shall be in charge of leading Aleph In Training’s, Recruiting of Jewish male youth, and Retaining of new and old members.  He shall be In charge of all chapter membership drives or Rush Weeks. He shall work side by side with the Freshman Moreh if one is elected.

D)The duties of the Aleph Mazkir shall correspond to those of a secretary.  He shall conduct all correspondence, and shall make phone calls for all meetings to members and to the advisor(s).  He shall take minutes at all meetings, and he shall be in charge of arranging rides for all events.  He shall also act as the backbone of communication to Irvine AZA.

E) The duties of the Aleph Gizbor shall correspond to those of a treasurer.  He shall collect all money due to the chapter, and keep financial records of everything that goes on during his term.  He shall pay bills due and owing by the chapter, only upon orders duly signed by the Aleph Godol and Chapter Advisor.  He shall keep a record of the name and address of each member in the chapter, and the payments of his dues and assessments.  He shall also be in charge of all Chapter fundraising.

F)The duties of the Aleph Sopher shall correspond to those of a newspaper editor and reporter.  He shall put out editions of the Irvine World News which is the official newspaper of the Irvine AZA.  He shall be in charge of all chapter publications to the Council, Regional and International newsletters.

G)The duties of the Aleph Shaliach shall correspond to those of a Jewish educator.  He shall be in charge of holding Friday night services, and Shabbas dinners,  and shall be in charge of making sure no events are planned on Shabbas unless approved by the Aleph Shaliach. He shall be in charge of all Community Service and Social Action programs, which include the ACT and TASC networks.  He shall be in charge of promoting Judaism in the Chapter.  He shall inform us of upcoming holidays, and make sure all Irvine AZA events are kept Kosher.  He shall also be in charge of holding Havdallah services at all Saturday night events held by Irvine AZA.  

H) The duties of the Aleph Ruach shall correspond to those of a Chapter cheerleader.  He shall be in charge of promoting Chapter spirit, making banners, writing songs and making Chapter T-shirts.  

I) The duties of the Aleph Kohane Godol shall correspond to those of a mentor or chaplain .    

G)The duties of the Aleph Shotare Godol and of the Aleph Shotare Kotone shall correspond to those of a sergeant-at-arms and assistant sergeant-at-arms, respectively.  They shall prepare the meeting room, guard the door, and preserve order during the meeting.

Section 3.  Declarations and Elections-Declarations shall be opened  at a regular chapter meeting by the Aleph Godol.  Any member who wants to run must declare to the Aleph Godol by 12:00 p.m. the night before the day of elections, anytime afterwards a member can only run for Chapter executive board, by a nomination.  Elections shall start with the position of Aleph Godol and end at the position of Aleph Ruach, a member who has lost for a position may drop down to another position without a nomination.  If you are nominated, and you nominate someone else, you must drop your nomination.

Section 4.  Freshman Board-The Godol shall decide within 2 weeks of being installed whether or not the Freshman board will be put in effect.  This Board shall consist of a Freshman Godol and Freshman Moreh.  The elections of the Freshman board shall be decided at an executive board meeting.

Section 5.  Duties of the Freshman Board-A) The duties of the Freshman Godol shall correspond to those of a Freshman president.  He shall sit on the executive board, as a representative of the Freshman board, he shall work side by side with the Chapter Godol, and he shall oversee the Freshman board.

B) The duties of the Freshman Moreh shall correspond to those a Freshman membership Vice-president.  He shall work side by side with the Chapter Moreh.  He shall help with all AITs, he shall also help out the Freshman Godol with anything he needs.

                                      Article 8.

            Resignation of officers

Section 1.  If a Chapter officer wishes resign, he must turn in a letter of resignation to the Chapter Godol and the Chapter Advisor, and the letter will be read at the next chapter board meeting.

Section 2.  If the Chapter Godol resigns, he shall be replaced by the chapter S’gan.  The Chapter S’gan will become the next Chapter Godol unless a two-third majority is cast against his conformation as Chapter Godol.  Once affirmed, he shall appoint a new Chapter S’gan.   If the S’gan is not confirmed than an election for Chapter Godol will occur.

                                                Article 9.

           Impeachment of officers

Section 1. Guidelines.

A) Any Chapter officer may be impeached.  All board members must receive previous notification of the impeachment.

B) An officer may be impeached at a Chapter meeting, or at a special meeting petitioned by a one-third of the membership of Irvine AZA.

Section 2. Procedure.

A) the impeachment procedure will be presided over by the Chapter Godol.  In case of an impeachment of the Chapter Godol, the next highest officer shall preside.

 

                                      Article 10.

                                         Committees

If There shall be standing Committees there terms of office shall coincide with that of the officers by whom they are appointed.

 

                                                Article 11.

                Zero Tolerance

section 1.  Irvine AZA is a non-smoking chapter, there shall be no smoking at any Irvine AZA event.  This rule applies to all members, not just the Executive Board.  If this rule is broken than the following consequences shall occur.

Section 2.  Consequences.

A) 1st offense-Automatic Removal from the event, and suspension for 5 events or 30 days, which ever comes first. 

B) 2nd offense-Suspension for 6o days, and he must give a 15 minute presentation on the effects of drugs, tobacco or alcohol.   If he is on Executive Board he shall be forced to resign.

C) 3rd offense-The member will be expelled from Irvine AZA, and never allowed to return.

           

                     Article 12.

                    Fundraising

Section 1.  -Money raised by the chapter form the community shall be utilized for the philantrophic purposes.  The allocation of the funds shall be decided upon by the Chapter.  A fee of four dollars per member most be paid to the International Service Fund at the end of each year.  The Aleph Gizbor shall be the main committee head of all fundraising events.

Section 2.  -Funds raised by the chapter for the personal use of the Chapter shall be raised by means of an activity where adequate value return for the charge.

Section 3.  -Scholarships-If any member needs a chapter scholarship he can work it out with the Chapter Godol and Gizbor. 

                                                Article 13.

                   MASCOT

Section 1.  The official Irvine AZA Chapter Mascot is Schmedley the shark.  

Section 2.  The official song of Irvine AZA is the “Shark Attack.”

A)Every year the board adds a new verse  to the end of the song, as                              their term is over.

Section 3.  The official ice-cream of Irvine AZA is “Fudge and Nuts”

Section 4.  The official tip of Irvine AZA is the “three cent tip”

Section 5.  The official Basketball team of Irvine AZA is the “LAKERS”

Section6. The official Colors of Irvine AZA are “blue and white”

                                Article 14.

                   Amendments

The Constitution and by-laws may be amended at any international convention of the Aleph Zadik Aleph, subject to the approval of the B’nai B’rith Youth Commission.

                                                Article 15.

                 Additions

Any chapter may make additions to the uniform Constitution and by-laws by a two-thirds vote of the membership present at a regular meeting.  Such addition shall become effective immediately upon approval of the Regional B’nai B’rith Youth Organization director.  No such addition shall in any way conflict with any provision of the Uniform Constitution or by-laws.
